Tim Cook, Jobs� successor as Apple chief executive, was opposed to suing Samsung in the first place, according to people with knowledge of the matter, largely because of that company�s critical role as a supplier of components for the iPhone and the iPad. Apple bought some $8 billion worth of parts from Samsung last year, analysts estimate.

Tim Cook sendiri sebelumnya pernah menyiratkan hal serupa pada sesi wawancara dengan Bloomberg beberapa waktu lalu.

Dalam kesempatan tersebut, ia menyatakan bahwa Apple tidak memiliki pilihan lain selain melayangkan tuntutan terhadap Samsung.

�What we would like, in a perfect world, is for everyone to invent their own stuff,� he said. �We love competition. But we want people to have their own ideas and invent their own stuff. So after lots of trying, we felt we had no other choice. We tried every other avenue, and so we�ll see what happens in the future.�
